Profile
Capital for a capital-intensive industry
Brian Ladin is the founder and chief executive officer of Delos Shipping, a Dallas-based merchant bank and lessor serving the maritime industry. Delos provides debt and equity financing to shipowners and operators worldwide, with a focus on long-term sale-leasebacks, distressed maritime assets and cyclical opportunities across tankers, dry bulk, containers, car carriers, cruise and specialty marine tonnage.
He founded the firm in 2009, when bank capital had retreated from shipping in the wake of the financial crisis and owners needed balance-sheet alternatives. Delos built and then sold a fleet through the cycle, and today concentrates on structured leasing that lets operators redeploy capital into what they do best.
Before Delos, Ladin was a partner at Bonanza Capital and at Talisman Capital, where his investments generated more than $100 million in combined profits. He began his career in banking at ABN AMRO. He is a CFA charterholder and took a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy at Tulane University, class of 1995.
“The shipping industry is a dynamic space with many different opportunities to generate attractive returns.”

Sale-leasebacks
Five- to twenty-five-year leases across all maritime asset types, for counterparties with implied or actual credit profiles ranging from CCC to AA. Structured to move tonnage off the balance sheet without disturbing operations.
Distressed & special situations
Purchases of distressed loans, corporations, partnerships and assets across the maritime industry — transactions that require conviction and a tolerance for complexity other capital providers avoid.
Cyclical opportunities
Opportunistic acquisitions in dry bulk, containers and tankers, timed against the freight and asset-value cycles that define the industry’s economics.
